| We started out leaving home about 7:30 am. First destination is the gas station by home and to meet up with Val&Nancy. As we rode into the gas station, we saw them sitting there, waiting. It turns out they were waiting since 7am. Umm, did we say 7 or 7:30? They were so excited about going on this trip, they couldn't sleep. Is that excitement or what? With gas tanks filled, we headed south on I-405 until I-90 and began going east. If we wanted to we could've stayed on I-90 all the way to Sturgis since it runs right thru that city, but we had some other minor plans on this trip. The sun was trying to burn off the clouds as we climbed up over the Snoqualmie Pass. Coming down the mountains, it was getting warmer and warmer. We continued on to the town of Spokane for a lunch break Dick's burger joint. Oh yum, good greasy burgers. We crossed into Idaho and pulled over to the side of the road. Some of us wanted to let loose with the wind in the hair feeling. We crossed the short distance of the panhandle of Idaho, climbed the Bitteroot Moutains, crossed the border of Idaho into Montana at Lookout Pass We lost an hour of riding in a split second, just like that *snap* as we came into Montana crossing the time zone from PT to MT. Onward thru Montana we passed forests and mountains which were beautiful wherever we looked. Our destination for this first day of riding was Missoula. We arrived about 5:30 in the evening. Not bad for a 500+mile day. After we all unpacked the bikes and cleaned up a little, we decided to do a search for the local Harley shop, just to pay a visit and collect a shot glass or dealer pin. In search of the dealership, we found several bikes parked in front of a restaurant. We decided to stop there and check it out. Turns out it was a monthly party for bikers called "Hot Summer Nights". They had food, beer, bike games, bike show, etc. We were thinking the city of Missoula put on this party just for us travelers. What a town! |
